Burke County Recording Fees

Burke County follows the state fee schedule for recording. Under G.S. 161-10, standard instruments cost $26 for the first 15 pages. Each extra page is $4. Deeds of trust and mortgages are $64 for the first 35 pages and $4 per page after that. A $25 nonstandard document fee applies if formatting rules are not met.

How Burke County Deed Records Work

When you buy property in Burke County, the closing attorney prepares the deed. The deed must be signed by the seller and notarized. It must meet all state formatting standards under G.S. 161-14. Paper size must be 8.5 by 11 inches or 8.5 by 14 inches. The first page needs a 3-inch top margin. Font size cannot be smaller than 9 points. Text goes on one side of the page only.

Once the deed is ready, it goes to the Burke County Register of Deeds. The staff checks that the document meets all requirements. They stamp it with the date and time.
